Chapman’s of Sevenoaks have built a deserved reputation, in over 20 years of business, for supplying top quality, locally caught fresh fish to some of the best restaurants across the South East. Their loyal customers include Michelin and AA starred restaurants in Kent, Surrey and London. When the opportunity to launch their own restaurant came up in Canterbury they jumped at the chance.

“We’re excited about the idea of this new venture as it gives us the opportunity to showcase our produce direct to customers,” explained Amy Theze, a director of the business. “As locals ourselves (we live in Whitstable) we’re proud to have extended our local sourcing policy to include the vegetables, the wine and the beer we serve."

Chapman’s restaurant opened in St Dunstan’s in November. “It’s a great location just by West Gate Tower. We’re close to the town centre but easy to get to by car too,” said Amy. "This building was originally a Lloyds bank and has undergone some extensive changes over the years. Before opening our biggest task was a major refurbishment of the kitchen – a particularly tough job as it was the original bank vault and the walls are incredibly thick! Our landlord, Tony Skelton of Stour Valley Estates, has been very supportive throughout the whole process.”

Restaurant manager Anita Turner is really pleased with how well things are taking off so far. “We feel we’ve been able to establish ourselves very quickly as the> place to eat fish in Canterbury. Bookings are now essential if you want to eat here at the weekend and we’ve also got lots of ideas for special events and promotions to keep the restaurant busy all week. We recently introduced our ‘All you can eat’ mussels evening which was so popular we’ll be doing it regularly. And we’ve a set menu offering 2 courses for £12.95, or 3 for £14.95 throughout March – fantastic value.”
