Going Back to their Roots

The green shoots of recovery are bursting out in bloom at the Canterbury Chartham Garden Centre on the Stour Valley Business Park. Since taking the strategic decision to go back to their roots and focus on the core business of gardening the Garden Centre has seen a significant increase in visitors – as evidenced by how full their car park is these days!

And they are successfully turning more visitors into more income – confirming the change in strategy was the right call. Formerly known as Wyevale, the Garden Centre was renamed as Canterbury Chartham in June 2009 to reinforce its position as a local garden centre that is part of the local community. Tough economic times have lead to a rising interest in allotments and vegetable growing – something that is a major focus in store, with experts on hand to answer any questions. A new market selling fresh, local fruit and veg. has also been added. All alongside a stunning range of shrubs and flowers, as you would expect.

Stour Valley Estates are, of course, delighted to see their tenants flourish. “If the Canterbury Chartham Garden Centre are successful in attracting new visitors this is also good news for other businesses in the same park, for example the Pilgrims Hospice warehouse shop,” said Tony Skelton. “The Stour Valley Business Park is a particularly great location for businesses looking for retail customers as it is highly visible from the busy main road to Ashford.”

Indeed, opportunities for businesses to take space on the Stour Valley Business Park are expanding. Planning permission has been granted for a new terrace of small business units on the same site, together with approval for a small volume motor related showroom. “The park is easy to access and has plenty of parking. The new showroom permission has 38 display spaces on the forecourt and will be ideal for a small car or motorcycle business.” Tony added.
