Is the grass greener on the other side?

If your grass could be greener, you need the help of Paul Weight of GreenThumb lawn treatments. Paul took over the GreenThumb branch in Canterbury in June 2010, taking on responsibility for more than 1,500 customers in an area that covers Canterbury, Yorkletts, Faversham, Seasalter, Whitstable, Tankerton, Blean, Herne Bay, Margate, Elham, Chilham, Sturry and Littlebourne.

Since taking over the business they’ve added an extra 200+ customers and plan to keep on growing.

"Our offices are in Lenham but storage space there for the equipment and treatments we use is very limited, so I started looking for new premises that would keep pace with our growth," said Paul. "I wanted somewhere not too far from the office base but easily accessible for our operational staff, particularly as most of our customers are east of Lenham, around Canterbury. Stour Valley Business Park ticked all the boxes.

"I searched online for storage space around Canterbury and I knew immediately that the vacant unit at Stour Valley Business Park was ideal for our needs. In fact the cabin was a bonus – we now have an office that can be used as a base for James, who is responsible for sales, along with the space we were seeking for storage and loading/unloading. Being on the main A28 Ashford Road just outside Canterbury means it is easy to get to all our customers.

"Once I’d identified the unit I met up with Tony Skelton to agree terms and everything went very smoothly."

While you may be accustomed to ignoring your lawn throughout the winter, Paul and his team are available to look after your lawn all year round with four scheduled treatments. In the winter the maintenance schedule includes scarification and aeration that will help your lawn stay free from moss and treatments to help conserve water and keep the grass looking greener in the summer.

"Having a great lawn needn’t cost a fortune. Our lawn treatments start at just £15 and the average cost is £29 – which can be less than the cost of buying the materials from a DIY store to do the job yourself," explains Paul. "We adapt our treatments to suit local conditions. For instance, this part of Kent, where the North Sea meets the English Channel, has a very unusual climate and we are, once again, officially in drought. This means that lawns quickly bake hard and become dry for long periods in the summer and are susceptible to moss growing in the winter.

"Also, lawns in some parts of the area suffer from red thread, a fungal growth that turns grass blades pink, and leatherjackets, the offspring of crane flies that can destroy a lawn, are also a problem. At GreenThumb Canterbury we have solutions to all these infestations that can prevent your lawn looking lush and healthy."

If your lawn is looking tired and below par, why not give Paul and his team a call for a FREE lawn inspection - 01622 851266, or see details online.
