A brighter future for more boys at Hope View
With the completion of two new classrooms, Hope View School are now able to offer up to 40 youngsters a better chance to complete their education. This is an increase of 13 places, and crucially will allow them to take primary school children – aged between 7 and 11 – to prepare them for the demands of the secondary school curriculum.
Hope View School is based at Stour Valley Estates’ site at Chilham Country Park and was established in 2007. They work with young boys with emotional, social, behavioural and learning difficulties for whom the mainstream education system is no longer working. Following referral by the local authority the school will assess the boys’ needs and focus on preparing them for college or work through the achievement of GCSEs and BTECs – with an emphasis on changing behaviour and filling knowledge and skill gaps.
As well as the classroom dedicated to teaching children of primary age, the other additional classroom will give the flexibility to teach basic literacy and numeracy skills to the secondary school boys, and will give more space to study art GCSE – an increasingly popular option.
Says Head Teacher, Carla Kaushal, “We know that our education here at Hope View already has a very positive effect on the lives of our young people, so being able to work with the younger boys will be a big boost towards helping them achieve a brighter future in the local community. At the same time we are able to allow some of the older boys to opportunity to stay on longer before having to take their exams.”
Stour Valley Estates is delighted to be supporting the school in its expansion plans. Its sister company Skelton Contractors has also been involved, completing the construction work and interior fit out.
