Fenced in – just how we like it

Father and son team Mike and Richard run R.M. Fencing from the CT3 Business Park in Aylesham, near Canterbury, Kent. They moved in at the beginning of this year having outgrown their home workshop of 12 years.

R.M. Fencing do all the manufacturing as well as the sales and installation of their fencing products. And they do every type of fencing – timber, metal, security, not to mention gating and decking -you name it they will fence it in! So when it came to looking for new work premises they had some very specific requirements.

“We started out just searching for ‘business units to let’,” said Mike (the elder of the two partners). “But as soon as we mentioned we needed a yard, a workshop and an office/retail unit most of the places we considered ruled themselves out. Stour Valley Estates came up trumps with this site at CT3.

“Dealing with the team at Stour Valley was really straight forward, they assisted us in every way they could from the initial advice given regarding our requirements for the unit to ensuring the unit was completed and ready for us to move into when we needed it. Our lease was signed in September and we were in the unit and working by the 1st November 2010.

“It’s a brand new unit with the yard right alongside the workshop, and there’s room to expand when we want to take the business to the next stage.”

While Richard’s main role is to go out on site, Mike stays at the business unit making up the panels, producing quotes and manning the office. “We’re happy to take on pretty much any fencing challenge,” Mike explained, “for domestic or commercial. And nothing fazes us – putting up a fence may sound like a straight forward task but there are often problems with building footing, drains and cables that only become apparent once you start digging. And we’ve even had to remove trees. It’s all part of the service!”
